The Chronology of Puncak Jaya Papua’s Tragic Shooting

The victim of shooting in Puncak Jaya, Papua Province, turns out to be a motorbike taxi driver, and not a BIN member as previously assumed. In September 12, 2016, around 6.30 PM in Kampung Karubate of Mulia District in Puncak Jaya, Papua Province, a tragic shooting occurred.

The grim incident happened to Ersya who is a Torajan origin. This 27 years old Christian Protestant man was an honorary teacher in Kulirik Mulia Elementary School. It’s indicated that Ersya was shot to death on the spot, with a gun wound on the right temple right through the back neck.

The chronology of murder as told by the source person is:

  1. At 6.30 PM of West Indonesian Time, Pasi Intel Dim 1714/PJ received a report from Mr. Soleh (motorbike taxi driver) who said that one of his colleague got shot in Karubate village.
  1. At 06.31 PM of West Indonesian Time, Pasi Intel Dim 1714/PJ reported the crime through handy talkie to District Military Command Headquarter, received by Pasi Ter Dim1714/PJ, who then reported it to  Poskotis Satgas Pamrahwan and Resort Police of Puncak Jaya.
  1. At 07.00 PM of West Indonesian Time, Pasi Intel Dim 1714/PJ along with 8 officials and an ambulance from Mulia General Hospital went to the crime scene. They found the victim on the face down position with gunshot wound on the right temple that went through the back neck. The victim’s motorbike (DS 5323 RJ, Jupiter MX, red and black) is found 10 meters from the victim’s body. The body was then evacuated to Mulia General Hospital for autopsy.

The police investigates guns that were found circulating in the black triangle area where its a fertile ground for criminal gangs. One revolver gun was under the ownership of Yambimayu from Lekagak Telenggen gang. One choke gun was seized by Briptu Surman Yasin in 24 June 2011 from Goliat Tabuni gang. From POW gang/Pilia, among others, there is a choke gun seized by Pirime Sector Police in 2012, a choke gun seized by the Police in 30 May 2014, and a choke gun seized by the Police in 28 July 2014.

Autopsy shows that the bullet found in the victim’s body came from a revolver gun. It is strongly believed that the shooter is from Lekagak Telenggeng gang, because a revolver was found from Yambimayu. Moreover, the area is controlled by that gang.
