The government is focusing in developing the infrastructure and the economy in Papua. The development in Papua is important because in the past, there are many areas in the past that are still undeveloped and need to be addressed. These developments are expected to increase the economic growth in Papua. Although the development and the construction of infrastructures are still halfway, but the impact can already be felt regarding the economic growth in Papua.
According to the Papuan Governor, Lukas Enembe himself, the development in Papua is already on the right track. It is in accordance with the vision and mission of Papua, which is, “Rise Up, Be Independent and Prosperous”. There are a couple of indicators that show us about the positive development in Papua, such as the Human Development Index, Poverty rate, and Economic Growth.
The HDI in Papua has increased 1 point in 2016, compared to 2013. In 2013, the HDI of Papua is only around 56.25%, but now, the HDI in Papua has reached 57.25%. During the Lukas Enembe administration, the HDI in Papua has reached 95,42%.
The poverty level in Papua has also dropped 2.96 point in 2016, compared to 2013. In 2013, the poverty level in Papua reached 31.13 percent, but now, it has decreased into 28.17 percent. The achievement of Lukas Enembe administration in Papua, on decreasing the poverty reached around 88.03 percent.
Finally, the economic growth. Papua economy has experienced growth increase from 7.97 percent in 2015 to 8.46 percent in 2016. In the economy sector, the achievement of Papua during the last 4 years is around 115.86 percent from the initial target of 7 percent of economic growth. While for the Papua’s local revenue, in 2016, it has reached around 48.3 trillion IDR, while this year’s regional income is around 24.54 trillion. The economic growth in Papua itself is higher than the national economic growth of Indonesia, which is 5.02 percent.
“The economic achievement is correlated positively to the improvement of the Papuan people. It can not be separated from the implementation of the slogan of Papua it self, “Rise Up, Be Independent and Prosperous”.
