President Joko Widodo has also promised that he will increase the runway, so it can land big aircrafts like Boeing. This airport is going to be the central of air transportation to areas with challenging access in Papua, through Wamena route. As you can see, this airport has already have a trailblazer routes to Wamena, furthermore, there will be many trailblazer routes to other hard to access places in Papua. The Ministry of Transportation has also built routes from Wamena to Elelim, Karubaga, Mamit, Tiam, Kobagma, Mig, Mapenduma, and Keyam.

“In 2017, the Ministry of Transportation will open new aviation routes from Wamena to Sobaham, Kuyawage, Bokodini, Mulia,” said the Head of Bureau of Information and Public Communication of the Ministry of Transportation, Bambang S Ervan, cited from detik.

Hence, by building new flight routes from Wamena to Sobaham, Kuyawage, Bokodini, Mulia, it will help to improve the connectivity in Papua. By doing so, it is expected to support goods provisioning to that places, which will reduce goods scarcity and also lower the prices. Currently, there are around 250 airports in every area in Papua, and through these airports, logistic and goods supplies can be distributed to other places in Papua. Hence, air transportation is important for the well being of the Papuan people. Adding air transportation routes will increase the well being of the Papuan people.

These new flight routes in Papua will help the distribution to areas that are hard to reach by land transportation. We are also going to take the consideration of using rivers to help the distribution of goods in Papua,” said the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumardi, cited from official Minister of Transportation website.

Improving the logistics supply chain in Papua is one of the main goals of the Ministry of Transportation. One of the solution for this goal is by making new flight routes in Papua. Not only that, it will also help the connectivity of hard to reach places in Papua, because connectivity is important for the economy and development of Papua.

Recently the Ministry of Transportation has also bought DHC-4T Turbo Caribou aircraft, in order to help distributing logistical supply in mountain areas in Papua. The Ministry of Transportation hopes that by purchasing the aircraft, not only will it help the logistical supply in Papua, but it will also help in reducing cost of goods in mountain areas in Papua.
